Are you saying that these parks are in bad condition and not kept up? Then what makes you think another park would be any better? Or even 'used' by people?

Juracka Park:

Located in Colonial Manor at the end of Juracka Parkway, Juracka Park has a half basketball court, a tennis court, two volleyball courts, new playground equipment and pavilion.

I know for a fact that this park is not in the condition that is described.  It may have a tennis court surface, but the net is non existent, the basketball court is in terrible need of repair, and the "new" playground equipment was new, 20 years ago.  It is also not a place to send kids because it is a haven for drug deals and other questionable activity.

The original post was in reference to a new Little League park.  Someone mentioned the Woestina field, RLL has not used that field in at least 3 years.  The fields that RLL uses are on Princetown Road behind the Republican Club and the main field on Broadway.  These fields are useable, but are in serious need of repair.  Broken fences, broken scoreboards, parking lot is terrible, bleachers in need of replacement, No lighting, the list goes on and on.  Broadway is in the best condition but does still need work.  The town doesn't care because it is just kids.  The "old foagies" would rather complain about the kids getting into trouble rather than helping to provide a place where they can play safely and stay out of trouble.

So let the kids and their parents bake more cookies......slow down stop texting and put your pedal to the metal(becareful in Schenectady)........

I'm sorry,,,,I just feel the best example for a self sufficient person to learn is how to be self sufficient.....ie:fundraisers, etc.....

where are the kids of old in their baseball uniforms around town???? too lazy or overbooked with other stuff......

priorities......

it doesn't mean the town doesn't care,,,but, it sure as hell means dont look to the government to 'bail you out'.......

we wouldn't be here if it weren't for the 'save me' attitude of the past.....

Dont you get sick and tired of talking about things...Run Down..high taxes and a lot of talk
ah yup! But I just don't think rotterdam needs another park. Rotterdam needs to fix up and clean up what it already has.

Didn't say bail them out, said help them out....big difference.  The parents are already giving of their time and money, but the cost of running the league and keeping the fields maintained is a lot more now than it was back in your "olden days".  Plus there is a little thing called insurance that the league has to carry now because society is so gung ho on suing for every little thing.  That stuff isn't cheap.

The fields we have will do as long as the support is their to modernize them without a serious financial hit to the community or the league.  This town seems content to live in the past, sorry but times have changed.

You're right, times have changed..... There aren't as many kids using parks.  They sit on the couch and play the XBox, Wii, or PS3.  The neighborhood park with the playground and basketball courts doesn't get used.  Running around, riding bikes and exercising isn't fun, sitting on the couch and gaming is.

I say monitor the usage of the parks currently open in Rotterdam and see if another one is necessary.  We could close some of the parks used the least in Rotterdam, and then we can possibly consider building 1 BIG park, like Towasentha in Guilderland, or The Crossings in Colonie.

Let not use the "it's for the kids" argument, when a majority of the kids don't use the parks.

The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out for himself, without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane and intolerable, and so, if he is romantic, he tries to change it. And even if he is not romantic personally he is apt to spread discontent among those who are. ~ H.L. Mencken

having kids cost $$$......and again,,,let me just say......National Little League is ripping off the parents.....go to the
organization and demand value for the fees.......we are talking millions if not billions of $$ in that organization
whether it be via the 'volunteering' of big baseball names/clubs/politicians/corporations........

I'm all for the kids being prominent in the community in their uniforms...not just the parades.....

maybe they are overbooked with other sports---then it's not that important....

we have pigeon holed our kids into thinking that mom/dad/government will do it for you so all you have to worry about
is playing baseball and enjoying yourself......enjoyment is from what one makes out of their own 2 hands and effort....

Worked on getting rid of it, that is.  Just before she ran away from the Republican party...or what's left of it.
