I hear Vorro's pizza had a fire last week ... and they're now closed.  I also understand that they're moving back to Shoporama very soon (into the pool hall?)

Wow, where had they moved to when they left Hannaford Plaza?  I thought they merely closed.  And Shoparama gives most a run for their money.  Only drawback is they are not open on Sunday and they close on the early side.   I asked someone in the know one time, gee wouldn't he make more by being open on Sunday, etc.  He does such a good business he doesn't need to be open.  Well it's nice to insure that your emloyees have that "family day" off, too bad most businesses are open on Sunday cuz the employees are probably home alone.  Excluding the religious "argument" for being closed on Sunday, at least back in the days of blue laws there was the benefit of the family not having scheduling conflicts when trying to get together (as long as you weren't medical, police, or fire employee)

Vorro's was on Guilderland Ave in that little strip where the Quik Pik and Laundramat are. I didn't know about the fire either. And Shoporama Pizza is a very busy place and would give competition to any other pizza business. Although there are so many in Rotterdam and yet they all seem to succeed.

Regarding the old blue laws, I grew up in an Italian family. My grandparents were right from Italy. And I remember every Sunday, we would go to church and have our pasta dinner at 1pm sharp. After dinner we would either go to my grandparent's house which was usually bustling with family or we would go for rides in the summer and always stop for icecream. (and that was if a Yankee's or Giant's game wasn't being televised) And since there was no work on Sundays, it was always a treat to go to the Carman Dirve - In (outdoor movies) on Saturday night. For us, Sunday was always a day of family, fun and great food(of course).
I never remember seeing my mom doing laundry or my dad mowing the lawn on Sunday. There seemed to be enough time during the week to do that.

Ok, so now I have really aged myself!

I think Vorros has been in many places around town.....I do have to say,,,I was impressed with their food when they were open.....I really liked the flavor of their sauce......They were just too eratic with the hours and just before they closed each time the food would become very eratic in flavor and what was available.....

I had a pizza from there once when they were in Hannaford Plaza and it was very good. When they went to Guilderland Ave., they were still good but somewhat pricey.

In today's society, we have the luxuries of automatic clothes washers, driers, dishwashers, microwaves, cell phone, fast cars, fast food, self checkouts, debit cards...etc..... and yet we have no time!!! We are busier than ever! Go figure! Back in the days when they not only washed clothes with a ringer washer or by hand and hung them out to dry, wash dishes by hand, party line phones, slower cars and no scanners at the register...they also grew their own veggies! And yet they STILL had more time for family and friends. I think we've been duped into thinking this is a better way of life! We bought the farm, so to say, and live by it!
