We can only hope, shadow, that what you are hearing is correct and by 'many' people. For right now, and for Rotterdam, when you think of the Conservative party, think PBA!

Last election (Tomasone(r) vs Cooke(d) ) the Conservative Party backed Tomasone. This election the Conservative Party is backing Cooke. What's different now?

Over the past four years, Schenectady police officers have worked to increase their power in the Conservative Party, mounting a registration efforts to get family members and other allies in the party.

BINGO!!!
what is the % of voters/population that are officers and vote???

The police departments do align themselves with the conservative party. They have recently anyways. That is not a good thing when you join a party to sway some potential voters. People who run for any office should run on their own merit and not just to support an agenda.
Well, I am a true conservative, however, how the party is run in this county, I wouldn't even think of voting on that line. In fact, I'm starting to think that it wouldn't be a good idea to vote for whoever's on that line. They're making it easier for me by endorsing Dems.

BK...the conservative party, in Rotterdam anyways, is nothing more than a 'special interest' party. They jump from band wagon to band wagon, issue to issue. Clearly not for the 'people' but instead for their own motives and agendas. They are in bed with any political party that can help accomplish their agenda. Case in point...why did the conservative party endorse Tomasone vs Cooke in the last election and now they are endorsing Cooke in a repeat race? What could have possibly happened? Think about it.

Which shows in the end, they're not truly Conservatives at all.

In my humble opinion I think that voting down party lines is a thing of the past as both parties are not following with wishes of their supporters. The Reps and Dems both have lost sight of their original goals and have gone off on a search and destroy mission against the other party instead of concentrating on doing what's best for their supporters.

Wow Shadow....we can only hope that some of these dems and reps read what you just posted. Cause you said a mouthful here!!!
WE THE PEOPLE should be on a 'search and destory' mission against the politicians in office now!

Well, now we know why Joey Guidarelli was appointed to the vacant seat by the republican party. Obviously it was quid pro quo for the conservative party endorsment of Mr. Tommasone in the last election. The conservatives helped get Tommasone elected, so in return the republicans filled the vacant seat left by Tommasone with someone from the conservative party. Now we just have to figure out what the conservatives want in return for Mr. Cooke's endorsment in this election. I'm putting my money on having a town supervisor in their pocket for the negotiations with the PBA, and our 2008 police contract. Those of us who were members of this forum during the police commission incident, know that the police were not very supportive of the new republican majority, and vowed to take them down. First, by questioning Mertz's promotion of officer Denny. Second the accusation of stolen gun handles by officer Denny. Now they are throwing their support behind Mr. Cooke. The same person that ran against Mr. Tommasone in the last election for town supervisor, in which the conservatives backed Tommasone.
As a side note. Does anybody know if Denny the police officer is any relation to Jack Denny running for the town board??
It is obviouse to me that the police and PBA have taken control of the conservative party, hence explaining Mr. Guidarelli's spinelessness during the police commission. Being a registered conservative made his constituents cops.
I guess if I were a person who didn't want to see Rotterdam cops retire a $90,000 a year and continue to screw the taxpayer. I would watch what candidate the conservatives back and vote the opposing candidate.
You hit this one right on the head!!! It should clearly be a 'no vote' for anyone backed by the conserviative party in Rotterdam! Listen people, we are being set up and munipulated by the Rotterdam conservatives. They clearly are NOT thinking of the best interest of you or me. They are just manipulating the process to further the RPD's personal agenda.
If Cooke (d), who is endorsed by the conserv's, gets elected, he will be the one negotiating the police contract. That is the only underlying plan here. And we the taxpayer will get screwed again!
Listen, Cooke never was and still is not a very insightful politician. He clearly lacks vision and direction. He is pretty much just a puppet for the party that endorses him, making him unable to govern the people and be an effective representative for 'the people'.

I have been a registered member of the Conservative Party for the past 29 years (since I became old enough to vote). I have been disappointed in the past (and continue to be) with the endorsements of the Conservative party who don't seem to base their endorsements on ideology. Though I am unfamiliar with the platform on which he is campaigning, I am perplexed at how John Silva could be endorsed for a seat on the Rotterdam Town Board by the Democratic, Working Families and Conservative parties. My understanding of the platforms of the Working Families and the Conservative parties suggests that they are diametrically opposed, the former having very liberal (to near socialist) views.
I have been considering changing my registration, but cannot come to desert the party. My ideals and principles closely align with those of "classical" conservatism. Besides, to which party would I move? I concur with Shadow's statement that the parties have lost sight of the principles on which they were formed.
To get back on topic, I would pull the lever for Mr. Tommasone if I were a resident of Rotterdam. I have attended several Rotterdam Town Board meetings and have read many articles re: the actions of the Rotterdam government w.r.t. growth and development. I believe that his decisions are guided by what he believes is in the best interests of his town.
Zim, I agree with most of what you said and I also would vote for Tommasone but have a few issues with the way he has handled some of the water problems in the town. I believe that he has Rotterdam's best interest at heart but is listening to some wrong advise from his staff on some issues.
