I have not talked to one person who has said that their taxes have gone down. Talk to the residents in Rotterdam as see if you can find someone whose taxes went down and let us all know.

Hmm, not a good sign.  I don't know many residents of the Town of Rotterdam.  Guess that we'll hear from those who post here.

Senders I agree that the reval had to be done but it was how the tax rate was applied to both the school and property taxes that are in question. There's a big difference between the tax rate that was proposed to the tax rate that was actually applied. Wait until January and we'll see what we're going to pay in property tax and that's all town taxes.

The 'examples' that were sent out were based on the previous years rate....as it happens when we go shopping the price to live in Rotterdam went up.....

here is the question for those we have elected--"WHAT IS THE VALUE OF OUR TAXES"

price of gas, price of paving materials, price of natural gas/electric, price of health insurance for town employees, price of hourly town employees etc etc........

I dont know about everyone else but the cost of heating and electrifying my home has increased,,,anyone been to the market lately?--I'm getting spanked at the register how about you?? cost of health insurance,,,yup increased for me.....I may be ignorant of somethings yet willing to learn about them, but I AM NOT STUPID.......

we all need to be honest with ourselves and rational and logical.....and the only things irrational and illogical are the corrupt folks at the trough in the higher seats........I understand that costs go up,,,,but please, those in elected positions dont hide behind it and dont pander with crumbs.......

Everything has gone up over the years due to inflation, labor, and the old supply and demand game. My question to you is what cost has gone up in the Town of Rotterdam and the schools there-in to drive the need for so much more money in taxes. Is it the cost of salaries for teachers, pensions for teachers, or the cost of police pensions that has driven the costs up. As you would say Senders show me the money trail.

I totally agree Shadow.....and yes, I bet the wages of those folks has increased, as has mine being a nurse.....how the pensions work I dont know....I dont have one and probably never will.....I get the responsibility of doing that myself.....yeah,,,

I will have to research the pension thing.....

z2im Hit it on the head....CUT SPENDING! I clearly do not know about 'all spending' in Rotterdam, but I do know that the teacher's union and the police union and CSEA unions in part killing us! I also know that when they proposed the resurfacing of our roads, it was cheaper than when they actually budgeted for it due to the increased price of petroleum.

Here's a question for anyone who has the answer: How many law enforcement personel are needed to protect Clifton Park? How many law enforcement personel are needed to protect Rotterdam?

depends upon the community and who lives there.....

there are 30,000 residents in the town, give or take, and how many officers on the force---including the 'paper shuflers'......not that they dont do anything, but either the town has more issues never reported or it is just a trough......do we really know our neighbor???.....who is protecting our 'borders'???....just look at the elderly woman who got beat up......

Got a minute? Here's the story:
When the reps, who were endorsed by the conservs, took control of the town board, in the last election, they promised to cut spending in all areas. Well one of those was the police dept. Who's budget is huge. Rotterdam has cops with a salary of approx $60 grand/year retiring at $90 grand with full benefits, at the taxpayers expense. They are encouraged to work as much ot as possible in their last 3 years of employment as that is what their retirement amount is based on. Now this was negotiated in their last contract, so in essence, they are allowed. HOWEVER, the republican majority wanted to form a police commission, which is also legal in NYS. Well the cops had a hissy fit. It was noted by some spectators at some town board meetings, where cops were actually 'flipping the bird' to the town board while the meeting was in session. Now if that's not a display of respect and professionalism, I don't know what is?!?

So the cops went to a meeting with black tee-shirts on with a 'no police commision' emblem on their backs. They were slouched in their seats, interupting anyone who spoke and displayed a total lack of professionalism. The cops VOWED to 'take the majority down'. And might I add that Ms. Marco(d) aka Mrs.Ricky Collins (xcop), was the ring leader. Joey abstain Guidarelli, who was a conserv on the board, sided with the cops.

From that point, every cop, family member of a cop and freind of a cop, changed their party affiliation to CONSERVATIVE. Hence, Randy Pasquarella becomes the new conserv chair.

Which brings us to the present...The conservs are endorsing Cooke(d) so HE will negotiate the cops contract next year, cause the reps will negotiate in a way that will keep the safety of Rotterdam the major concern and the financial fluff for the cops disolved. Well, the cops just ain't gonna for that one!

I'm sure I have left out some other incidents, as there were so many. But right now, the conservs have become at best a dysfuntional, special interest group that clearly does not think of US the taxpayers and clearly only their short sighted agenda at hand.

Whether we go to the fundraiser or not, we must keep in mind that a vote for Steve Tommasone is a vote for positive progression in Rotterdam. A vote for Bill Cooke is a vote for the old Rotterdam mindset that has continued to keep Rotterdam in the mess it is in. This administration has really hurdled many stides. This town is in a state of crucial redevelopment that has been decades overdue. If Bill Cooke becomes the next supervisor, the business owners and developers will have a hay day AGAIN, as in the past. And the cops will have it 'their way' like they have in the past. And why the conservs endorsed him is yet to be exposed. It is clear that Bill does not have a conservative idiology.

Let this present administration finish what it started!!
