Buchanan letter full of distortions
This is regarding the Sept. 9 letter, “Past has caught up to present with Rotterdam taxes,” by Schenectady County Republican Chairman Thomas Buchanan. In his usual style, Mr. Buchanan has a collection of untruths and/or distortions. First, I was not Democratic chairman in 2003; I assumed that position in 2005. In 2003 I held no position in the Democratic Party. Since I was not a Democratic Party official, you do not have to be a rocket scientist to determine that Mr. Buchanan was being misleading when he said that I used the Republican Party as scare tactics. And that I told the seniors not to worry that the revaluation would cost an average of $1.75 per thousand, that only one-third would go up. And that I helped conceive the “Cooke-Paolino revaluation plan.” In 2003, I had not yet met former supervisor John Paolino and certainly had not discussed revaluation with him. I have a lot of friends who are Republicans — and they are good people. It is a shame that they have to be represented by Tom Buchanan. This is nothing more than a shallow and desperate attempt to cover up the inadequacies of the Republican administration in Rotterdam. I never made any of those statements, and Mr. Buchanan knows it. I believe in honesty, dedication and loyalty and, if elected, I will represent Rotterdam to the best of my ability using those principles. To my friends in the Republican Party, I say it is time you had a county chairman worthy of you. WILLIAM COOKE Rotterdam The writer is the Democratic candidate for supervisor for Rotterdam.

Buchanan may be a jerk. But Tommasone is still the best candidate. |

Billy, first you have no friends in the Republican Party. And if you do, they are just conservatives. And as far as Billy's honesty, dedication and loyalty, let's just look at who Billy is pandering to. The conservative copsparty. Bill Cooke's honesty is questionable, Bill Cooke is dedicated to making sure the cops get the contract they want and Bill Cooke's loyalties lie solely with law enforcement/conservs....not with the residents. Not with moving this town forward in a positive, responsible direction. If Bill Cooke is elected supervisor, Rotterdam will go back to pandering to the land/business owners with no regard of smart development. Bill Cooke will end up being another Brian Stratton. Everyone else will do the work and Bill Cooke will take credit for it. He will clearly be a puppet for the Rotterdam conservative party. Why else does anyone think the conservs endorsed him? Surely not for his conservative views. Bill Cooke will just be used as the vehicle to accomplish what the cops conservs want. |

And this is the reason Rotterdam CAN NOT have Mr. Cooke as the next Supervisor. It will be for the negotiations of the police contract that will start next year. Rotterdam has many more important issues than the stupid cops union contract. And of course we won't leave out Godlewski and Jasenski. If they get elected, Rotterdam might as well kiss their asses good-bye! http://www.unionvoice.org/cdalf/notice-description.tcl?newsletter_id=11107210#top
