Officials approve
development post

ROTTERDAM — Town officials have approved a coordinator’s position to help foster ties between the various economic development entities operating at the town, county and state level.
Board members unanimously approved the full-time position of economic development coordinator last week. They also approved hiring Danielle Pezzuto, a part-time worker in with the town’s Public Works Department.
Supervisor Steve Tommasone said Pezzuto will help coordinate projects and communications between groups such as the Rotterdam Industrial Development Agency, the town, private business and the Metroplex Development Authority.
“We made a determination a while ago that we needed a point person to coordinate these things,” he said.

Where's Rotterdam's engineer which this town needs so badly? This would eliminate having to depend on the developers engineers which isn't always in the towns best interest to do.

Perhaps I am reading this article wrong, but did they approve 1 or 2 positions? Is there one new full time position and one part time position? And what job is Pazuto's? The full time one or the part time one?

I know....I can be dense somethimes!

I think the person promoted was a part time worker and she is now a full time employee.

Seems to me that this is a full time position that has been filled by a person who, until moving to this job, as been working part time for the town.

This says that Steve Tommasone hired Pezzuto for the job description of what I understand to be the coordinator.

This just shows who was put into the position, since it follows...

Okay, I really don't see what the need was for this position. We already have Santabarbara as chair of the IDA board, plus he is newly elected to the county legislature, and we have Mr. Mertz who is chairman of the economic development committee. What is the advantage of a 'point' person?

One more layer of insulation, of course.  You don't want them actually talking to each other, do you?

I didn't quite understand the necessity of this new position either. It appears to be a "gathering of information" position which appears to be able to be handled by a secretarial position. I don't quite see the need, but then again, I can be wrong. The article just seemed very vague regarding the job description.
