Republicans need to be part of city, county solutions

   The Nov. 6 election results clearly showed that local Democrats have made inroads (or solidified their gains, as in the city of Schenectady, where the party won in both the mayor’s office and City Council).
   But if this area is to solve the many problems it faces, these new leaders will need to set aside political labels, establish clear policies and plans, and work together to fix what’s broken. This should begin by local Democratic leaders reaching out to fellow Republican leaders, offering to sit down together and embrace each other’s views and ideas on how to improve the quality of life for the city and county. Such cooperation needs to be at the foundation for any plan for regional improvement.
   Newly elected leaders at all levels of government now need to lay out specifi c plans and outline how they propose to make them work. That will require the savvy to cross political bridges, because without bipartisan cooperation, even the best-laid plans can fail.
   I firmly believe part of the effort will be for leaders to avoid the political patronage that often comes with new administrations. Instead, they should access current staffing, and where changes might be warranted, hire the most qualified candidates.
   In the end, it matters little to the people of this community whether the leaders who attack our problems are Republicans, Democrats or other, third-party affiliations. The trend shows that voters are more interested in issues — not party affiliation.
   Politics are not important, or shouldn’t be looked at as a “sporting event,” as to what party won the championship ring. Government is important. And being able to draw a distinct line between the two is what will determine whether we move ahead or get left behind.

Reps or Dems...they were elected to represent the people that elected them. And for the people that elected a republican representative in Schenectady County, they clearly get no representation at all. Our representative is OUR VOICE and it is not being heard. That is not the roll of government. The dems have clearly lost the ability not only to govern the people but to uphold the governmental law. The dems have single handedly stopped the 'government by representation' process.

Unfortuantely, as long as the metroplex exists, there will be a major divisioin in the parties. Whoever controls the purse of the metroplex...controls the  people. If the metroplex is to continue, it clearly needs to become bipartisn. Because we would probably be in no different situation if the reps were in control. It's all about the 'power'.

It just proves Bumble that both the Reps and the Dems have lost touch with the people and both have lost sight of why they were originally formed.

Both major parties are in need of a major rehaul and an education in the roll of government. And education in Federal, State and Local laws. It appears that 'we the people' are screaming, but no one is listening. We clearly  need to take our government back both through minority parties and through elections, one at a time. Since I don't see the major parties rallying for change or reform.

Both parties are answering the many complaints of the Americans--"they need to do something", "this looks horrible", "I wish they would fix this" etc etc........
