County Legislature needs more like Santabarbara

I closely watched this year’s Schenectady County Legislature budget process. It seems Angelo Santabarbara is one of the few elected officials who actually listens to taxpayers.
He tried and tried to lower our taxes! Unfortunately, he was up against a ruthless county Democratic majority, namely Chairwoman Susan Savage and Vice Chairwoman Judy Dagostino.
Mr. Santabarbara proposed several common-sense tax-cutting proposals, such as requiring a two-thirds majority to raise property taxes and eliminating county taxes on essential energy products. All of his ideas were summarily dismissed and ignored by the Democratic majority. Democrat Legislator Gary Hughes’ personal response to these proposals was an unprovoked political attack on Mr. Santabarbara. Meanwhile, our other District 4 representative, Judy Dagostino, again cancelled out Angelo’s vote to the detriment of Rotterdam, Princetown and Duanesburg.
Schenectady County is already the 12th highest-taxed county in the nation. Enough is enough. I am a registered Democrat, but the taxpayers need change in the county Legislature. Criticizing new officials who fight for the people, like Mr. Santabarbara, will only make matters worse.
Keep fighting for us, Angelo, the taxpayers appreciate your efforts against these career politicians who are no longer working for us, but for their own political interests.

Anyone who closely watches this horrible County Government should be commended. Ang has been a bright spot but unfortunately is a minority member. The best thing we can do next year is dump Judy D. She was been invisible on Metrograft waste and supports raising County taxes in a recession.

We have someone, a known Conservative, Joe G. willing to run in District 4. There is no reason to look for other candidates. Where we need Conservative business people to run is in the City and District 3-{Glenville/Nisky}. Hopefully, needed changes will be made and a full GOP slate for once will run next year to take back the County and end the fiscal madness.

Is that our "Salvatore" that wrote that?

No it can't be Sal, as the writer said that Judy D cancelled out Ang's vote and he would never say anything bad about Judy D.

Benny, be careful for what you ask for when it comes to Joey 'abstain' Guidarelli. Just check out his track record when he served on the Rotterdam Town Board. For Joey, it was 'business first'.....his business!!

However, your Judy D. assessment is right on. She has got to go!

That was the letter in the spotlight I was talking about before, and am a little surprised the SG printed it too! Wow, hard hitting. Good for Angelo. I think whoever he endorses will be big winners next year!

Is the Gazette setting a new precedent?  They've never before, by their own policy, printed a letter that's printed elsewhere.  Brad Littlefield I believe is testament to that one

It must have slipped by while they were busy worrying about the competition from the forums.

Perhaps the gazette is becoming 'fair and balanced', huh? I am rather shocked that they did allow this to be printed. Others who have tried to submit 'opinions', were told they were either too negative or too harsh. Some have said that their letters were edited without their knowledge.

And I too am surprised that the gazette printed it since it wasn't 'exclusive' to their paper. It was also in the spotlight. Perhaps they just didn't know it, huh?

And what the gazette fails to realize is that these forums are what people REALLY think! Ya know, the people who actually live, pay taxes, vote, raise families, work, eat and sleep in and out of Schenectady County. If the gazette and politicians wants to keep their finger on the pulse of the area, they should just read these forums.

The Gazetto and smart politicians are all reading these forums. That's the problem with the paper. Instead of being grateful for the free lead generation and free editorial material they are in a tizzy because they have permanently lost their monopoly on local news. Faster, more inclusive, without the pro-Metrograft bias. By the way are the "finishing touches" on the Big Hose done yet?

Well people should ask Judy  and that other guy the whats and whys of the Big House. While you are asking them inquire about the Duanesburg Library renovation, which was announced to great hoopla a few years ago when Judy was running for office. Also check on the grant to the little league or Pop Warner park the county had a press conference for in Duanesburg too. Maybe we can ask Rene the status of the grant. I think it was from 2005 or something. Also find out how the Little League park land is going since they said it would be a fine piece of land without wetlands to buy for the Little League. See how all those successes have proved to be.

Oh, plus ask about the downtown library expansion she supported that went down the drain and ask her how much money was wasted on it before they decided to just not do it. It would be nice to know how many millions have been spent on chasing pipedreams and making up fiction to get re-elected. How would the budget be today if that money was saved for the taxpayers instead of being wasted?

What is nice about Angelo is that he quickly realized the seriousness of the county financial situation and voted along with another legislator, Suhrada, to NOT waste the millions of dollars that this "new team" wastes.

The Democrats on the County wasted over $300,000 on the insane Downtown library expansion plans. They refused to enlarge the Duanesburg library, the one library that needs improvement. Despite what you read elsewhere, the Downtown "plans" were terminated because of lack of County funds and not the phony closure issue. For 8 months we have been lied to about "finishing touches" and the Big Hose opening "any day now". Ray still has not been fired. He wins awards. By the way Montgomery County announced a 3% COUNTY CUT in taxes. WHY? No Metrograft ripoff-a Board of Supervisors, which insures every town has a say in the County Budget.

Both Angelo and Joe Suhrada analyze problems from a business perspective. That's what you should look for in candidates. Judy D must be on the top of any dump list. We can't afford her anymore. We don't want people that go along with wasteful spending schemes.
