Proctors, SACC-TV may join forces

BY MICHAEL LAMENDOLA Gazette Reporter

SACC-TV is in discussions to consolidate some operations with Proctors, a move that would help the public access television station’s finances and allow both to develop additional programming, officials said.
SACC-TV would retain its board of directors and continue to receive approximately $80,000 annually through a fee generated from city of Schenectady subscribers to Time Warner, said SACC-TV President Gary McCarthy.
“What we are looking at is moving over to Proctors. It would be the umbrella agency that would manage SACC-TV and help promote downtown arts and entertainment,” McCarthy said.
Proctors CEO Philip Morris said the relationship between the two agencies is still under discussion. “I’m not sure how it will work other than we will be closer,” he said.
SACC-TV board member Don Rittner said McCarthy presented the option to the board last week.
“There are a lot of questions to be answered, such as how will SACC-TV maintain its independence,” Rittner said. “I think anything that will further the goals of SACC-TV is a good thing, but we need to see the details of the proposal,” he said.
McCarthy said working with Proctors would help SACC-TV reduce expenses and improve the quality of programming. “It would allow us to shift resources to core production and public access,” he said.
SACC-TV would have access to Proctors’ Black Box Theatre and to the Proctors’ Main Stage for TV productions and to Proctors’ marketing, fundraising, lighting and production staffs, McCarthy said. “We would like to build a little competition where people are producing quality shows on air,” he said.
Morris said Proctors could tie SACC-TV into its education programs, and “we could certainly absorb some of the back office work of what SACC-TV does.”
SACC-TV would not be able to broadcast Proctors events, McCarthy said, as................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....amp;EntityId=Ar01004

What independence? Like when they edited Lazzari's debate and Surhada's speeches in front of the county legislators? I watch those things and they all of a sudden go to test pattern when he speaks, as if the camera ran out of tape. Give me a break.

What nonsense-what a taxpayer ripoff. SAD-SACC/TV and Proctor's two money pits becoming one money pit! Did you hear the one about the Krat run TV station that no one watches? Say Schenectady County.

SAD-SACC/TV took over the old Goldstock building will alot of hoopla and fanfare. All the hacks were there. They can't keep up the building. Taping live shows? No group will allow that. Even The Rat Pack couldn't fill Proctor's. They better concentrate on their core function and stop helping other losers. These Krats can't run a lemonade stand-forget about a theatre and TV station.

Bravo for SACC, Proctors deal

The partnership under consideration between Schenectady’s public access cable operation, SACC-TV, and Proctors seems quite promising. Not only could it benefit both institutions, but all residents of Schenectady County and perhaps the entire region by allowing Proctors to extend its educational programs and SACC to improve the range and quality of its productions.
At the same time, it could clear up the picture for a television station that has had chronic financial troubles by getting it out from under the responsibilities for running its own building and letting it share Proctors’ facilities, technical staff and office operations, including marketing and fund raising.
The move may also help the consortium — the city of Schenectady and Glenville — get a better deal from Time Warner in the current negotiations. One of the things the consortium wants is a third channel — one for public access, one for education and one for government — and the extra programming from Proctors could justify it.
In addition, the improved quality that can be expected from anything Proctors is involved in might make Time Warner willing to pay more, particularly if the company saw it as a way to distinguish itself from satellite TV.
    Finally, better, original programming could.....................http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....amp;EntityId=Ar00903

Bronx Cheer from Rotterdam! Great deal! Put 2 money losers together and really screw the County sheeple. Nobody will say nuthin-Pathetic Judy D, Karen J and Sue "THE" Savage will cheer this on!

A complete waste of taxpayer money and way to fill up the vast emptiness of Proctor's that no private business would rent out. Ask the jewelry how's business? Oh yeah, they slashed hours and are closed one workday a week. SAD-SACC TV-16 needs to dump all the Krats on its bored and clean up its act. Ditto for Proctor's. No more County funding for non-profits-NOTHING! Time Warner should give this unwatchable liberal dreck station the boot and stick to it.

This move will just ensure that SACC-TV will benefit from the tax money that proctors receives. Proctors is a money pit that can't sustain itself, and what do they do....add yet another burden on the taxpayers.

As far as the 'jewelry store', well everyone knew it wouldn't be a lucrative business there and would not bring people to the area. It would have to believe that they received funding to move there in the first place. Cause I know first I wouldn't have done it and second, if I did decide to take the plunge, someone would have to pay ME to move there.

Of course BT, you County sheeple are paying their property taxes. Krat fat cats are laughing all the way to the bank at you. Then they can cut hours to reduce their losses. Nobody is going there and nobody gives a rats rear.  Downtown is nowhere to put any retail. The piano store was right. Sunmark was right. Trustco was right. Death Ray is always wrong.

The icing on the cake is that the idiots on the County Bored voted 13-1 to give Death Ray 5 more years. Fire him. If he had any decency he would have resigned in disgrace after the Van Dyke fiasco. Or the Robinson Square fiasco. "Strawberry" Fields was absent-as usual. Joe Suhrada was the only vote for the County sheeple taxpayers-as usual.

Proctors will run SACC-TV, growth likely
New management, opportunities seen for public access television

BY KATHLEEN MOORE Gazette Reporter

Proctors is taking over the city’s public access television station to create a better product, organizers said Thursday.
“Proctors is going to take over the day-to-day management, and eventually we’ll move to the Proctors campus,” SACC-TV President Gary McCarthy said. “It will really move public access television to a higher level.”
McCarthy began the delicate takeover negotiations months ago, when he broached the subject with Proctors CEO Philip Morris.
Morris confirmed that, “He said, ‘It might make sense for all parties.’ It certainly makes sense for us. Media and entertainment have been linked for 80 years. It’s strategically pretty smart.”
His employees can work on broadcasts during their down time, while SACC-TV workers can bolster the theater’s children’s education program.
“We can utilize the skills to build an education program around media creation,” Morris said. He envisions an after-school program on filmmaking, possibly for high school students.
“Have kids run their own show and have it broadcast,” he said. “I’m excited.”
McCarthy said the station will benefit from the additional Proctors personnel, as well as the multitude of stages for sets. Set design has long been a problem for SACC-TV, which in recent years spent thousands to add a second permanent studio at its deteriorating Broadway building.
“There’s more opportunities at Proctors,” McCarthy said. “It wouldn’t be the one studio we have now. You could use the GE Black Box, Proctors main stage, Muddy Cup.”
The control room would likely be moved to 440 Arts, he said, a building a few doors up State Street from Proctors that houses arts space.

No, he would have to spend hours looking for the speeches by the GOP legislators to cut them out, and adjust the volume down on for their broadcast, so I imagine one of the legislators has a niece or nephew who will do the job for a mere 50 grand. Maybe a democrat committeeman from the city, or some schoolboard member's sister.

Hey, someone's gotta keep Morris' empire going!! The 1 block of state street (the money pit) has been created and designed for the one and only Philip Morris/Proctors! And there will be plenty more 'created', taxpaid jobs coming out of this government consolidation!

Who over sees the finances at Proctors?

Nobody! What a complete outrage!-Here's where they can move SAD/SACC-TV to the Muddy Cup proper. Another outage from Death Ray, Judy D, and Karen J.

Better quality Communist propaganda-paid for by the stupid County Sheeple. Time Warner should immediate cease all financing of this dupe station. Two money pits that bleed taxpayer dollars merged together for more make work lob jobs and grease.
