ROTTERDAM -- Joe Whipple and Mike DiCocco share a bond through football, first as Pop Warner teammates, then high school opponents, and currently as coaches with the Schalmont High football team. The duo also has the distinction of each being the head coach for a season during the best two-year football run in school history. DiCocco served as a varsity assistant at his alma mater from 2000-06. He was head coach for two years, including 2008, when the Sabres captured the Class B West Division title for the first time and tied the school record with seven victories.
DiCocco, however, decided to step aside as head coach.
