Notice, they still haven't released the report on how much the cash-4-clunkers program really cost us.

Can't be it was too much of a success since the major auto makers are diminishing by the day and the other countries are now leading in auto sales. It was just another BUST!!!

You know, I was thinking that this deal falling through could be good news for the residents of Dolan Drive.  Was part of the reason that they needed to move Dunnsville Road...again...the fact that they thought they needed to expand because they had this new business in the pipeline?  Now that they got outbid and won't have it, if they go ahead and build additional facilities, what are they going to use them for?

The possibly failed attempt to purchase these stores has nothing to do with this expansion. This expansion has been planned for almost a decade. Price Chopper is a very very well oiled machine. They have 5-10-15-20 year projections. This expansion was one of them.

I believe that price chopper will end up with all or at least some of these stores.

If they do not end up buying these Penn Traffic stores they'll just build stores.  If they are looking to expand into the Syracuse market, they'll expand into the Syracuse market.  One way or another.  I'm sure they have contingency plans, they wouldn't have been around this long without them.

The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out for himself, without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane and intolerable, and so, if he is romantic, he tries to change it. And even if he is not romantic personally he is apt to spread discontent among those who are. ~ H.L. Mencken

Say what ya want.....but in this case NG is absolutely correct. I guess you think it's ok for politicians to get involved in private business transactions and sway the outcome, huh? And you obviously think that it's ok for 'special interest' groups to get involved in private business transaction too, huh? THINK AGAIN!

I had written a lengthy reply to try and explain what this is really all about, since I am a resident of the area...but then I erased it realizing I would be trying to improse reason and logic.  You have your opinion and I respect your right, regardless of what I may think about it.  Suffice to say it is much more than the political BS that people want to make it out to be.

Nah, I'd be shooting at stars with a water pistol!

But I will let you  in on the fact that Wegmans is actively scouting for a location to open it's first store in Albany!

Big deal! That's what businesses do. I believe, under capitalism, it is called 'competition. Yes?

Will Golub spend his significant wealth to either challenge Schumer for U.S. Senate or support
Schumer's Republican opponent?  How strong is Golub's opposition to government intervention
in the affairs of corporate America?

Here's a thought ...

I understand that Golub Corporation's corporate office (College Square?) project in Schenectady has Metroplex
support.  Don't know how much funding that includes, if any.

Is the government interference in this project, which may give Price Chopper an advantage over other grocery chains
(etc., Hannaford) different from and more appropriate than Schumer interfering in the sale of a failed grocery chain in
the Syracuse area to a competitor of Golub Corp?

WOW, I'm impressed that maybe you finally get it...now apply it to the whole Penn Traffice/Tops/Price Chopper bankruptcy process.  IT'S BUSINESS!!!  And Political participation is for vote stumping....why do people have to tag conspiracy on all activities!  Geez, take it for what it is and stop trying to make it more than it is!!!

Price Chopper gets the stores, it STIFLES COMPETITION.  TOPS buys them, enters into Price Chopper/Wegmans land...it is COMPETITION.  We want to have choices, and Price Chopper and WEGMANS are currently the only games in town.  P&C Stores actually are nice and reasonable pricing, but terribly managed and unable to compete with PC and Wegmans.  Maybe TOPS can do a better job...let's hope!
