It has been a banner weekend for the town with the water break fiasco, the car break-ins on Westside and Helderberg ave, and the Vandalisim in Highbridge...Rotterdam, a nice place to live...or leave

Just called RPD they said they have now shut off the whole town until they can get the repair done at Princetown Road, the original site.  He had no idea when we would be back on line.

Unbelievable...this break happened early yesterday and they let the tanks drain and still haven't got it done? What a bunch of clowns!

SiGroup in Rotterdam Jct has a line right to the Mohawk. If they could, the pumpers should get down there and fill up.

The money Rotterdam saves by not paying to update and properly maintain our water system infrastructure, we're probably paying our cops in overtime to deal with this problem.

When one area of the town gets a disproportionate amount of money, those other areas that are going without begin to breakdown.

The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out for himself, without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane and intolerable, and so, if he is romantic, he tries to change it. And even if he is not romantic personally he is apt to spread discontent among those who are. ~ H.L. Mencken

ROTTERDAM
Health Dept. extends boil-water advisory

BY JESSICA HARDING Gazette Reporter
Reach Gazette reporter Jessica Harding at 843-2830 or jharding@dailygazette.net.

The Schenectady County Health Department has issued a boil-water advisory for the entire town except Rotterdam Junction, effective immediately after a water main break on Princetown Road that also left hundreds of residents without water for over a day.
The break Saturday, around 11 a.m., affected residents between North Thompson Street at Princetown Road and North Westcott Road at Curry Road, and all the adjacent side streets.
Residents in the entire town were advised to bring water to a rolling boil for about three minutes before using it Sunday night. Officials said water should not be consumed, but it may be used for showering.
Senior Water Treatment Plant Operator Clark Collins said crews have worked since Saturday morning to replace an 18-foot piece of 20-inch water main that had a crack down its length.
By Sunday night the old pipe had been cut and removed from the ground and the new one was ready to be installed.
Collins said the boil-water advisory for the entire town was issued as a safety precaution for residents.
“We want to be proactive and make sure the residents are safe,” he said.
Collins said he didn’t know how much the emergency work would be costing the town. About 12 town employees, including heavy equipment operators and skilled laborers, are working overtime to fix the main, Collins said. The town has to rent a backhoe from private contractor William M. Larned and Sons because the town didn’t have one big enough for the job, Collins said. The town stocks the replacement pipe and other materials to repair the main, however, shutting down the water in the area and pumping out the pipes took a long time, Collins said.
“We had to shut off a lot of valves and some haven't been shut off in a long time,” he said. “It’s a really labor intensive operation, believe it or not.”
Residents were notified by activating the county’s reverse 911 system, which placed a call to all town residents alerting them to the boil water advisory. Notices also went out to local media.
“Schenectady County emergency planning took care of that for us,” Collins said.
The town’s volunteer fire departments also assisted in the repair operation.

don't worry our town hero's will save us
FDG will give up has large body of water - but only in an emergency
and Mr. G will produce study after study and no plan
and the police chief will never leave his office
thus nothing will change
rotterdam will still be a "nice place to live"

we should be working with princetown and duanesburg on a positive flow system!
just ask newton  - gravity is always employed and doesn't have a retirement plan requirement!

We have water this morning. But we definatly need to boil it first. I have a washer full of white clothes but half filled with water. I shut it after we lost all pressure. Today I'll have to empty it and start over when the water runs clean again.
