Shoppers finding post-holiday sales
Bargain hunters hit clearance events

    The Rotterdam Square mall was packed Saturday as retailers began day-after-Christmas clearance sales and consumers were out looking for bargains.
    Some shoppers, like Kim Auspelmyer and her son Nicholas, 6, had Christmas gift cards to spend. Kim said she took her son to the Borders at Rotterdam because the store is going out of business and most of its items are marked 30 percent to 50 percent off.
    “They are good sales today, this is the second mall we’ve been to,” she said.
    Nicholas said he was happy to get a picture book about the Transformers.
    “Because I like this guy Bumblebee,” he said pointing to one of the Transformers characters.
    Many retailers successfully avoided the 70 percent to 80 percent off deals offered recession-shocked consumers last year prior to Christmas through more efficient inventories.
