SCHENECTADY COUNTY Towns must fill dispatching void State police will no longer serve Duanesburg, Princetown BY JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter
Duanesburg and Princetown are negotiating a contract with Rotterdam for their fire and ambulance dispatch needs, after the state police unexpectedly announced they would no longer provide the service when their dispatchers move to Colonie in March. Duanesburg Supervisor Rene Merrihew said the town initially thought the state police would continue answering all emergency calls when the dispatchers at the Princetown barracks move to Troop G’s new headquarters on Troy-Schenectady Road. But in December, the town was informed the troopers will only be dispatching police calls, meaning both Duanesburg and Princetown would need to find alternate means for their other communication needs. “I was rather surprised,” Merrihew said. “There’s very little time to do anything.” Merrihew said Rotterdam Police Chief James Hamilton has assured her the town has the capacity to help both of the rural towns with its dispatch center on Princetown Road. She said Rotterdam will need additional communication equipment, including two radios valued at about $5,000 each. One of the radios is being acquired from the state police when they move the dispatchers out of Princetown. Merrihew said the two towns are also trying to acquire the second radio at the barracks, which belongs to the county. State police will continue receiving Duanesburg and Princetown’s 911 emergency calls. But any fi re or emergency medical service calls will be redirected to Rotterdam’s dispatch center via a “one button transfer,” explained Lt. Glen Miner, a spokesman with the state police. ...............>>>>................>>>>..............http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01200&AppName=1

I like Rene a lot...and the people of D'Burg for that matter. I understand there is an immediate need, and I'm fine with that for the short term. But we'd better get a handle on this.
Who's going to be purchasing the equipment? Certainly not Rotterdam, I hope.
Will we be compensated if we take on this extra workload? |

I heard about this at a recent town board meeting in Princetown. They weren't really given a choice about it. |

Deputy Supervisor Robert Godlewski said the contract being arranged with Duanesburg will contain a clause that will make it null and void once county dispatch is established. He said the town still supports the move and regards it as one that will eventually be more cost-effective for Schenectady County municipalities on the whole.
Does Supervisor Del Gallo have a position on this issue? His name doesn't even appear in the article. It appears that Godlewski and Hamilton are running our town. As for the Duanesburg Supervisor, the issue of the State Police no longer providing emergency dispatch has been known for some time. Why does this come as a surprise? Duanesburg should have to pay for the services provided by the Town of Rotterdam including when REMS covers EMS calls in their town. $174,900 for dispatch services and $500,000 to make up for unrecovered school funds that were stolen. I wouldn't want to be a Duanesburg property owner. This will likely increase their taxes significantly. |

The bank should be held 100% responsible to cover the $500,000 electronically stolen money. In fact, the school should sue the bank. Where were the banks safeguards? Where were the 'red flags'? We put our money in banks because we believe it is the safest place for our money. It is the banks responsibility to keep our money safe from hackers or any other intruders. If they can't....than they shouldn't be in the banking business. This is the banks fumble and they should 'pay up'....not the trusting school system or the trusting taxpayer. In fact, if I were a taxpayer in Duanesburg, I would insist that the school change to a more secure bank!! |

Good point FoF. FDG needs to get up to speed and involved with the important issues, take a stand, make a statement. Isn't that what the voters expected when they elected him? His "team" needs to take a close look and start making changes now. Otherwise, the circus act will be in town for 2 years. |

He doesn't have a position on 'anything'. And that, my web friends is the best the dems and cons had to offer. Shame on them and shame on him! |
