City building rises on land it doesn't own
Schenectady city officials trying to smooth out title issue at former environmental clean-up site

By LAUREN STANFORTH, Staff writer
First published in print: Monday, April 12, 2010
SCHENECTADY -- The city is building its dream $20 million public works campus on Foster Avenue, which officials have wanted for decades.

But there's a problem: The city doesn't own land where the facility is under construction.

A private company that purchases Schenectady's tax liens was supposed to foreclose on the former environmental cleanup site and transfer the deed to the city. Another "working together works" special! A poverty stricken City is building a Taj Mahal garage {which it can't afford} for $20 MILLION on land it doesn't own. Tax water-nobody will say too much.

You can't make this stuff up. Great work Mayor Stratton and the all DEM rubber stamps!
