Anyone else see the problem with driving up Broadway in Schenectady? Starting near the Bonfare/CVS, there is a series of bumps in the road that are very frustrating to drive on. I emailed the mayor today and hope they do something soon, but I figured I'd post here to see if anyone else shares my frustration of that road. |

Obviously you've never been in the Stockade during winter, or most of the other streets (especially around Ellis) any other time of the year. Broadway is fantastic compared to other streets. |

Stein, I had to read your post to my husband. It was ironic that just yesterday my husband had an appointment at Schenectady Orthopedics and we traveled Broadway both ways. We also commented on the road conditions.
The train tracks on Burdeck Street need serious attention. |

I've lived in the Stockade...we just called it part of the historic feel of the area I had to drive it yesterday myself, going into Schenectady I don't think is too bad, coming back is hell though. |

Never mind the road conditions, did you see that beautiful new shinny DSS building? Road conditions take a back seat to pandering to our welfare residents.
Next time you drive up the 890 east ramp at the bottom of Crane St., take a look to your right and look at ALL the GARBAGE on the side of the hill. It's an absolute pig sty. After driving through Schenectady I feel I need a prozac to cure my temporary depression. |

Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane and intolerable, and so, if he is romantic, he tries to change it. And even if he is not romantic personally he is apt to spread discontent among those who are. ~ H.L. Mencken |

That city did need a DSS building, the old one is pretty much ready to fall down at this point. |

LOL-Stein. Just Broadway? Try driving on Nott, Union Street or Crane Street. Street paving is not a priority. Handouts to nonprofits are. Don't hold your breath waiting for a reply from City Hall. The Mayor is too busy planning more "green" housing that no one wants. |

Perhaps they did need a new building. But this building and it's location is not sufficient. It was poor planing and I would like to know what brilliant mind put their seal of approval on it. However, Galesi owns the building (of course). And who knows, rotterdam just may find dss doing business right out of the industrial park. Hey....it's on a bus route right? Perhaps the welfare recipients can rent one of the apartments from sync, huh? |

it was an important building - it needed saving just below a hillside prone to slumping it has a built in lottery feature
on broadway - that is what happens when the original electric light rail system is just paved over |

Galesi owns everything around here, they also own the new Golub building. |

The County and not the City run DSS. The old building on Nott St is not falling down-it is an old school building. The problem was alleged asbestos in the building. Kinda like the main library-the problem disappears whrn the funding disappears. The County has promised to knock the old DSS down for a mall. Just like Robinson's? lol. BT brings up a great point about the new DSS site. Who would site it under a hillside prone to landslides in the middle of an industrial area? As always follow the money. |

Even the people who work there are concerned about the hill in the back. They said that when it rains, the parking lots are full of mud that slides down. Tell me that isn't a disaster waiting to happen. Brilliant planning! |

I remember that DSS building when I was a kid and my father was out of work on long term disability for a while. I remember quite well back then the creeks in the floor there and how you could feel the floor bend as you stood on it. I've been awaiting the collapse of that building ever since then.
Any other comments here sound like political bitterness. |

Sorry steiny.....anyone with any level of intelligence can actually see that the present location was clearly NOT a very brilliant move. The building is not adequate for the influx of welfare recipients the the pied piper government lures in. The parking lot is inadequate. Traffic makes it impossible to exit the place. AND there's a mud slide just waiting to happen. Political bitterness? Nah....just common sense! |
