A great achievement for local "leaders"? Over $650,000 in Rotterdam IDA and Metrograft funds flushed down the can for another governmental gin mill. More industrial jobs-less bar tending jobs.

What, no "hometown paper" coverage of this?  Where's the 'plex's mouthpiece?

Seeing as the year is half over, I find that unlikely.

The eighth Recovery Room to open, with others in Albany, Troy , Colonie and Amsterdam. How come all the others could open without large governmental handouts? SS thinks this is more evidence of County "renaissance"-lol.

Susan Savage and Angelo Santabarbara announce the proposed Recovery Restaurant:

There hasn't been that many cars in capitol Plaza's lot since Loblaws or whatever used to be there. Also where is Lagostino and Jasenski? Oh, geeee, they must have been late getting there, so Angelo jumped up front. Coincidental I guess. Also, what about Center Field, Major league (or whatever those two sports bars are) Dunzys, Scarboroughs, Marks, and Tops, don't they get a grant for their bar business? Must be no. So, now with a premier ginmill there, we can knock a few family run ones out of business. Probably two or three of them since we all know how fickle the bar/grill crowd is- they go to the hottest, newest place.

That makes sense, but it at least brings up property values near that intersection. What good planning!

Love how they say a mess, eyesore, needed rehab. That's because they forced all the businesses out for a drug store that never came. Then they throw tax money to bring in another bar/grill and proclaim "renaissance".

Wonder what the small independent bars and saying about this? They should threaten to leave the County.

Only if there was an opposition party that would speak out against the Metroplex.  The Republicans just sit their in silence, and then wonder why movements like the Tea Party or NNTP continue to pop up and challenge Republican candidates.

The most dangerous man to any government is the man who is able to think things out for himself, without regard to the prevailing superstitions and taboos. Almost inevitably he comes to the conclusion that the government he lives under is dishonest, insane and intolerable, and so, if he is romantic, he tries to change it. And even if he is not romantic personally he is apt to spread discontent among those who are. ~ H.L. Mencken

Where is Tedisco, Farley(Sr and Jr.)?  Where are all those conservative republicans that preach limited government and a level playing field for all?

As Grahmbonnet so accurately points out - how is this fair for those other restaurants and taverns that had to save their pennies and start their business without the help of government but rather with the help of close friends and family?  And then when they establish themselves through hard work and a good product, the County takes the sales tax revenue they generate and gives it to a competitor.  WOW!

Maybe when Metroplex provides funding to open a candy store or a law firm or engineering firm or pool company, somebody will see how Metroplex is fundamentally wrong.  Until then, I'll support the like of Brad Littlefied, Brian McGarry, and Mike O'Connor, who recognize Metroplex for what it is, and isn't afraid to say it.

If only the REPS sat in silence-they support Metrograft. They created it. Farley The Younger thinks Death Ray is doing a "great job". He supports all the nonsense Downtown like DSIC. Unless the REPS get back to their pro-life, fiscal CONS roots, they will never win anything.

Interesting how they selected Rotterdam for our close knit community for their chain bar (that makes no sense)!  Too bad it could not have been a local establishment with a hometown brewery similiar to Brown's Brewing in Troy.

ROTTERDAM
Capitol Plaza demolition plan on track
Sports bar, bank to replace former business complex

JUSTIN MASON Gazette Reporter

Plans to topple the dilapidated Capitol Plaza building were submitted to the town last week, meaning the badly blighted structure could be demolished in mid-August.
Town Planner Peter Comenzo said officials have been meeting regularly with engineers from BBL Construction Services in an effort to work out details for the site plan, which could go before the Planning Commission during the fi rst meeting in August. Once the site plan is approved, the developer is expecting to move quickly to bring the building down.
"They're looking to move aggressively toward demolition and then construction," he said Friday.
Asbestos abatement in the building could begin this week. Engineers have already inspected a 36-inch concrete culvert that carries the Cowhorn Creek below the building and determined that it doesn't need to be replaced — something that could have been cost-prohibitive.
Late last month, Rotterdam and Schenectady County officials announced that the 29,000-squarefoot building will be leveled and the 1.23-acre lot graded to make way for a Recovery Sports Grill. The project relies on a $65,000 grant from the county's Metroplex Development Authority and a $60,000 grant from the Rotterdam Industrial Development Agency to make the site shovel-ready.
The new restaurant will occupy 7,300 square feet at the corner of Curry Road and Altamont Avenue, with an adjacent bank taking up 2,500 square feet. The developer has stressed the need to move quickly on the project and anticipates completing the restaurant in late November, if all goes as planned. .............>>>>..................>>>>..............http://www.dailygazette.net/De.....r01202&AppName=1

Soon all of the Dems (including FDG) will have to have a new spot to hang.
According to the Times Union today, Dunzy's (that oh so famous hole, oh I
mean watering hole) had a State Tax Warrant imposed against them in the
amount of $22,320.

Page 2E of the Times Union Business Section for those who just don't
believe.  Now who owns that again....LOL!
