The equipment was pulled from Esposito Park by the old administration -- never gave a good reason why.
The equipment cost the town $40,000  and to my thinking ... $40,000 sitting in storage is a waste of taxpayer money.     Everyday, I see young people skateboarding in places they shouldn't be ... why not give them a safe place to do it?

I thought the equipment was pulled due to lack of interest.....no?

And was Esposito park every vandalized?

My recollection is that the skate park was not staffed .. and was locked for months on end -- and since no one could get into a locked skate park .. the previous town administration .. chose to pull out the equipment and put it in storage.

As part of  the Vision 2020 Town-wide Parks and Recreation Plan - the Parks Commission will look into whether or not there is a demand for returning the skate park somewhere in one of the existing town parks.
I am hoping to do a survey of town youth this fall or winter .. to get their opinions on the skate park ...
lots of details have to be looked at.     Bottomline .. $40,000 worth of equipment sits in storage --- should  it be be put back into use by the town or should we sell it ?

Has anyone mentioned the liability to and cost of insurance to protect the town if you create a skate board park because kids will get hurt trying to learn tricks and stunts.

The town carries liability insurance as it is now ...   and if a kid goes skateboarding on the steps near
Town Hall (have seen many skateboarding there after TH closes for the day) and breaks an arm .. the town would be liable.

The real issue is whether there is any interest in bringing back the skateboard park .. and if we did .. it would be to give the kids a controlled, safe environment to do it.    If we are never going to bring back the skateboard park .. then it doesn't make sense to keep $40,000 worth of equipment sitting in storage -- we can sell it and use the funds to put something in our parks that will be used.

I haven't heard of any serious talk from anyone that desires to have a skate park.

It was raised by some citizens who attended one of the 5 - public input sessions on our Town Parks Plan.

Furthermore, I was concerned when I found out that the equipment is just sitting in storage in one of the town buildings -- so .. my intention is to see IF there is enough interest to justify putting theskate board park back up somewhere in town  and  IF NOT  doing the fiscally responsible thing and selling the equipment to use the $$ for something we would actually use in our town parks.

As a 'christian nation' we are explicity told NOT to sue our brother but work it out amongst ourselves......therefore I would conclude that NYS (the nanny
state) is NOT a 'christian state'......no wonder the lawyers abound.....the 'christians' lost their foundation or chose to leave it...........

no dog park......

Sure there is a need for it.  Maybe the classless people in my neighborhood would use the park for their dog's poop instead of leaving it on my lawn or in front of the sign that says "curb your dog".

Do you think that they are going to put their dog in a car at 10-11 pm at night so it can poop in a dog park? NOPE!

People who own animals should be responsible pet owners. Allowing your pet to poop on someone else's property without picking up after them is lazy, disrespectful and uncalled for!

And these irresponsible pet owners wonder why their animals end up dead from rat poison!

The Parks and Recreation Commission does NOT have jurisdiction over public safety issues or
sewers and sidewalks.
We do have jurisdiction over parks and some residents of the town who attended one of the
FIVE public input sessions on out masterplan for town parks .. suggested that we consider a
dog park -- so .. since this IS a democracy .. the Commission will CONSIDER the suggestion.
Nothing more has been promised .. just that we will consider the suggestion.
