I just don't agree with having a specific church feast promoted on a town website. Not because it is a religious function. But because they hand picked ONE! It appears to be 'selected'! Was OLA's on their website?

If it needed more promoting, than it should have been the Hamburg St. Merchants who did the promoting. IMHO

Personally, I think there should be a Calendar of Events section on the Town website -- let all   the various churches and social groups post their events on it.

Maybe that's the only one currently submitted?  

I wouldn't think they "hand picked" it  -  rather it might be the only one that submitted a flyer or official announcement to the town?

I dunno, I'm just not seeing a problem with it until someone comes out and says they submitted something similar and it was denied or refused and did NOT appear.

I am sure that if we had a Community Events Page on our Town's website .. that even the WICCA
group that some on this blog attend .. could promote their special events.

It just shouldn't be.....that is what media is for..........internet/paper/posters/e-mail etc..........

It is just promoting events in a community .. not establishing an official religion

READ the Constitution ... it only says that CONGRESS SHALL PASS NO LAW which establishes an official religion or interferes with the exercise of an individuals right to worship as they please.

Have a Community Calendar  .. promote the POSITIVE and GOOD things that are happening in
Rotterdam .... and no one's religious freedom would be trampled on in the process

I know they are not ESTABLISHING.....but, the government shouldn't even offer that service to ANY religion.....if they didn't we wouldn't be having
this stupid conversation.......and as for who thinks what is positive and good is subjective........how about a sale at the local porn shop?

I guess if the local porn shop were a registered "not-for-profit organization"  than it would be ok

as for the government providing services to ANY religion ... the church I attend .. gets city water (pays for it) and is on the city sewer (pays for that) and the city plows the public streets around it -- with your logic than the city or the town should cut off water and sewer to churches and stop plowing .. oh .. and send a city funded fire truck if the church catches fire

come on here folks.....we are talking about a town website promoting a church function. My only issue is with promoting a church function under the guise of a 'town function'. It shouldn't be done at all. imho

It shouldn't be done for any church was my point.....
