The passwords are all about the leak.

And it goes something like this

Gadfly how did you hear of the password issue???

It is all about who they can terminate for just cause. Like talking about town business to the press

First, who cares how KR heard about the password issue? If it's true, that's all that matters!
FDG and crew promised transparency....so there ya have it....right?

Second, who cares how the press gets town business information....as long as they get it and report it correctly.
Again.......this is the transparency the rotterdam people were promised.......right?

My best friend's sister's boyfriend's brother's girlfriend heard from this guy who knows this kid who's going with the girl who was  in town hall and overheard the discussion

You would think rotterdam was exempt form the freedoms our constitution provides

Once they can mike and appoint tony all will be well

As I said...I have to catch them in the act. I was standing right outside DPW waiting for the elevator when I heard M. Griesemer
instructing DPW employees to forward the passwords in sealed envelopes.

I asked MG about this directly yesterday...why was he making such a request? He said the Town passed a resolution over a year ago
that required employees to supply their passwords to the Supervisor for the purpose of accessing employee computer documents
when employees are absent from work. Has no one taken time off since then until now?? Hard to believe...

I also asked him who directed him to suddenly collect this information. He said "his Supervisor"...I asked, "isn't that FDG? The same
FDG who, by his own admission, doesn't even know how to use a computer?" THEN he said it wasn't FDG...THEN he said he couldn't
remember...at this point he was backtracking all over the place.

After contacting one of the employees at TH after this posted, I was informed that all of the employees
have access to the same information all of the time.  The only thing each individual employee doesn't
have is access to each others e-mail.  Any and all documents, in that particular department, are readily
available and thus there would be no need to see anyone's emails. Documents are typically not stored
in anyone's email that would be kept from others in the department.

Mr. Griesemer is a paranoid fruit-cake due to the fact that his a$$ is on the line daily.
He can be fired at a moments notice and after this incident, he just might be, especially after lying
to his employees stating that FDG or "the Supervisors" office wanted the passwords.

Must be he is taking lessons from the EE School of the Paranoid Idiots.....

So you are saying that Mr. G was lying? Why??? It doesn't make any sense whatsoever. IMHO

Whoever proposed this "resolution" is either inept re: information technology or devious.

In a Windows environment, folders and complete drives can be shared to whatever users belong to a defined group or role.  In a UNIX environment, users can be defined as members of a group and permissions to files and directories can be set at the user, group or world level.

There is absolutely no need to have use another user's account to access a file that should be accessible to others.  And, I agree that an individual who has access to another's user credentials could use that access to implicate another and possible take an action that could lead to the owner's termination.

Martin - call India for it
DiLeva - gets it

3 out of 5 are why it doesn't work

Maybe they want to fire they people that are blogging when they are on the taxpayers dime?

While I see this as a possibility, they don't need people's passwords to do this.  Any IT department (or any supervisor) should be able to access their subordinate's files to see what they have been doing, and that would include their browser history and to see if they're even going to a site like this.  They can also check individuals e-mails, as blog postings can be done via e-mail depending on the blog.
