Any job or business in Rotterdam would be welcome if it helps to keep our taxes from going up every year.
Wouldn't a county nursing home be tax-exempt? Here is the parcel info on Glendale and although the assessed value is $29million, the property is wholly exempt! http://64.132.212.43/imate/propdetail.aspx?swis=422289&printkey=02300000010020110000I don't think that will help our taxes from "going up". That concept is a smoke and mirrors trick. |

So they will be transferring 200 jobs from one end of the county to the other....correct? 200 more cars on rotterdams 2 lane streets......correct? Hundreds more cars for visitors and transport vehicles.....correct? Keep up the cheerleading.....you're a good liberal socialist political solder!!
Can't wait until this is up for public hearing!!! |

for now the County Nursing Home is a public venture .. I would hate to turn it away from our town.
There is no reason why we couldn't build it here FIRST .. and then eventually consider selling it to a private concern. Although .. in my humble opinion .. public nursing homes are better run than private ones. My Dad was in a public one before he died .. and my Mom in a private one .. my Dad got much better care.
that is also subjective based on the season/workers hired etc.......right now in "Rome" we cant afford ourselves and legal immigrants do the work......and each person has a personal comfort level as to who touches their body/speaks to them or anything else with them I've been doing this for 20years and it IS that personal and subjective......and it depends on how a persons perception of their mind and body losses and their reaction of their own situation regardless of those taking care of them.....believe me....I live it everyday... up close....but that is a different conversation...... |

If the nursing home is tax exempt then it will bring no relief to the taxpayer so keep it where it is. |

Well, DVOR, thanks for clarifying. I understand that your father may have got good care in a public facility, but that public facility is not Glendale. The fact is the people that write the laws in Albany are different from the people that write them in Schenectady. The County runs the nursing home here and brought it to where it is. A bit if white-wash or a new building will do nothing to change the leadership, and therefore nothing to change the care.
This will not be a profitable venture for the town of Rotterdam. I say if they want to, build some more MFRH at the Curry Road Shopping Plaza, but that will not be allowed until another MFRH of equal value is ripped down to give us more area to support businesses, or an equal value of improvements are done in business districts.
Maybe the Metroplex would THEN be willing to come over and make some of the improvements that would be needed to enhance Hamburg Street. By the way, I know Altamont Ave is quite well off. Did they actually get sewer usage some time in the past? I only ask because this doesn't seem to be an issue, so maybe it shows WHY there's a difference between the two business districts that essentially run parallel. |

Altamont Avenue has sewers -- Hamburg Street doesn't .. and quite frankly before a dime is spent new sidewalks on Hamburg Street --> we should be investing in sewers there. No sense to put side walks in and then have to rip them out to put a sewer in .... and if we never build the sewers then Hamburg Street will remain underdeveloped. I remain hopeful that IF the County Nursing Home comes to Rotterdam ... it will be advantageous to our community. |

Since 'the gang' over there has had their hands in the pot....NOTHING has been moved forward.....bullys have ruled...patting eachother on the back.....it's a dirty shame Hamburg Street has been left as it is.....no vision just cheap selfish self promotion over there....... |

Hamburg St has been neglected for many years .. I know that the current administration is trying to turn things around .. but without sewers no business will build on Hamburg St. I know of at least 2 major projects that could have come but when they heard that there were no sewers .. they walked away. |

I do know that where I live - we have wanted sewers for over 40 years. Septic systems are really not cheaper to maintain .. and if you want to build any kind of business, you really do need a sewer system. We would happily pay for a sewer system in our part of Rotterdam. |

Sewers on Hamburg St could have been a shovel ready project for some of the money NYS got from the stimulus because without grant money a sewer project is just too expensive for the average home owner. |
