City Council Meetings to Begin with Muslim Prayers

The Council announced Tuesday that it has invited local imams to perform Islamic invocations at the beginning of the Council meetings in September.

Though meetings don't regularly begin with any form of prayer, an email from the Common Council called it "an act of solidarity with our Muslim brothers and sisters."

The email even referenced the ongoing issue in New York. "One of the goals of the Council is to give a voice to the many diverse peoples of the City, which is especially important given the recent anti-Islam events throughout the country."

Council President rJo Winch called it an important move for the Council. "I feel it is very important that, as a Council, we project a culture of inclusiveness in the City of Hartford. Too often it is our differences that divide us. In my opinion, it is our combination of differences that makes us strong," Winch said.

What a bunch of hypocrites, no Christian prayer to open their meetings but now they want to open the meetings with muslim prayers.

I believe that all public meetings should start with a prayer .. just make sure you represent all the
various faiths when picking prayer leaders

This has been going on in Schenectady at the county legislature AND the city council for a few years. For a while they had the Muslim lead off just about every meeting under the Savage tenure. They have a Catholic priest about once every 3 years. Why is anyone surprised? There is a full blown effort to kiss muzzie asz 24/7 even though they are only less than 1% of the American population. With the democraps, you would think they have 40% of the people in America!

I dont care who's butt they think they are kissing.......I say keep it at the pledge and NOTHING ELSE.......shame shame shame on our leaders.....
and the leaders of the religious groups shouldn't even be feelin' special since it's nothing more than the government usurping the 'power/responsibility' of
all religious leaders and groups.......

no religious group should feel 'special' when a government takes up it's mantle......the government knows how cults work....so do you and I......

Schenectady City Council has had a Catholic priest open the meeting with a prayer -- more often
than every 3 years -- I know because I know one of the priests personally and have seen him
at those meetings.  They have had the minister from the church near the senior apartments off
of Albany St.  
I have never seen a muslim lead prayers at any of the City Council meetings that I have
attended ... but I would welcome any religious leader  (except for may a Wiccan leader) to
lead prayers at the start of a city, town or county meeting.

Do you remember about a year into the Iraq ground war they had one and there was a controversy when a member of the audience spoke out saying "My son is over there fighting these people..." and the democrap liberals went apoplectic with hate against her?

I never met a "democrap liberal" or heard of one before

Look around the room at the next county democrap fundraiser. There will lots to pick from.

I have only seen many fine, positive-thinking people at the many fundraisers that I have attended--
people who love their country and their community .. and are willing to work together to make their
communities even better.

...and work together to get some largess and pork!
